1. Misunderstanding of family (v.1–9) John 7:1–9 (ESV) 7 After this, Jesus went about in Galilee. He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him. 2 Now the Jews' Feast of Booths was at hand. 3 So his brothers said to him, "Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing. 4 For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world." 5 For not even his brothers believed in him.
"Even those most familiar with Jesus can miss Him when they define Him on their own terms."
6 Jesus said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always here.
"Jesus won't respond to pressure; He moves on His timeline."
7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come." 9 After saying this, he remained in Galilee.
2. Speculation and division of the crowds (v.10–13)
3. Authority Challenged by leaders (v.14–24)
John 7:15-16(ESV) The Jews therefore marveled, saying, "How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?" 16 So Jesus answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
4. Identity Debate (v.25–31) John 7:26-30 (ESV) 25 Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, "Is not this the man whom they seek to kill? 26 Here he is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ? 27 But we know where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, no one will know where he comes from.28 So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, "You know me, and you know where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and you do not know him. 29 I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me."
5. Escalation & Arrest attempt (v.32–36) John 7:30–31 (ESV) 30 So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31 Yet many of the people believed in him.
6. The last day of the feast (v.37–39)
Psalm 118:1–2 (ESV) His Steadfast Love Endures Forever Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! 2 Let Israel say, "His steadfast love endures forever."
Psalm 118:14 (ESV) The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.
Yeshua
John 7:37–39 (ESV) 37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.' " 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
1. Jesus is the Rock that gives Living Water. 1 Corinthians 10:4 (ESV) They drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
A. The First Rock: Christ's First Coming. B. The Second Rock: Christ's Second Coming
2. Jesus is The Temple John 1:14 (ESV) Word became flesh and dwelt(tabernacled) among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
3. Jesus is The Source of the Spirit-Filled Life
"Jesus didn't design you to visit the river; He designed you to carry it."
Ezekiel 47:12 (NIV) Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing."
7. Division over his identity (v.40–52) John 7:43 (ESV) So there was a division among the people over him.
